Music of October; what’s in my headphones?
Music; the soundtrack of summer. As the nights draw closer, the rain is falling harder and the mornings are darker, I’m still in the mindset of holding onto the last glimpses of sun that I can. For those that don’t know, I’m in a constant state of having music on. I wake up to the radio, I travel with my iPod on, I work to Spotify and in the evening I’ll have a mix or put a Qleek on. For me, music basically takes up 12 hours of my day, every day.
This month I’m trading out the saxophone led sounds of future funk and getting back into my electronic DnB and deep dub music. I’m currently listening to The Mistress by Spectrasoul. This is a stunning album and I strongly recommend it to anyone keen on their electronic music. It’s a huge range of tones and rhythms, from massive basslines through to delicate instrumentals. It’s well worth a listen through.
So this is the album that’s getting a lot of air time from me at the moment, but it’s worth giving a special mention to The Getaway by Red Hot Chili Peppers. Most people who know me know that I am a huuuuuge fan of the chili peppers, they’ve been number one for me 12 years now. This is their latest album and it’s actually so good. It’s very much back to their roots of earlier music like By the Way and Stadium Arcadium, the band has come back stronger from a 5 year break. I can’t wait to go and see them again in December!
My personal favourite tracks from the Getaway are the lead single, Dark Necessities, The Longest Wave and then the phenomenal last 3 tracks, Encore, The Hunter and Dreams of a Samurai. These 3 songs at the end are just a beautiful trilogy, showcasing how the chili peppers have really developed their sound. If you listen to one track, make it the album closer, Dreams of a Samurai.
